Have you ever heard of Civano? We hadn't either until we saw an article in Sunset Magazine featuring Civano as one of the Southwest's most innovative new communities. The front porches, courtyards and other design details on Civano houses recall the distinctive architecture of early America. Drought-tolerant landscaping with native desert plants such as palo verde and mesquite reinforce Civano's unique sense of place. If the terms "new urbanism," traditional neighborhood design, and "pedestrian-friendly environment" appeal to you, you will love your visit to Civano.
What's in a Name?
The name "Civano" comes from the Hohokam Indian civilization who inhabited the area around what is Tucson today. The Civano Phase was from the years 1300 to 1450, near the end of the Classical Period which was known as a time when human needs were balanced with natural resources.
